Red Peppers

My favorite things to grow in the garden are red peppers and tomatoes. The year before last, nothing grew and last year I didn't have an actual garden. This year the garden was moved to a new spot and though I'm finding out that it doesn't get any sun until around 1pm it still appears to be doing well so far. I think this funny looking pepper is the result of my inconsistent watering habits. Speaking of which.... I had better go water right now since I didn't water at all yesterday. Oops.

Something good to read

I think I stumbled upon this book at the library. I tend to select these large paperbacks from the stacks and then read the back to see if I'm interested. This one looked interesting.

Once I started reading I couldn't put it down. I checked it out on a Monday and returned it on Wednesday! I'm sure I've mentioned before that I'm generally a slow reader but this one kept my attention and it was a surprisingly clean read.

Of course I had to go get the movie at the Redbox once I was finished but I must say that I found the movie disappointing. It was just okay and the book was great.

Today I was able to pick up Something Blue, the sequel to the first one. I had to wait a week to find it available. So far so good.
Update: I wouldn't say that this book is as good as the first one. It is written in Darcy's view instead of Rachel's and apparently she's a little more graphic. Just a little.

I just installed those two pendant lights. They're mostly decorative but will add overall light to the room in the evening. My personal work space will be right there next to the stairs and under the window and I will most likely use my OTT light in addition to the overhead lighting. I like lots of light.

Yesterday my dad and I cleared the room, swept, mopped up the dust, cleaned the windows and I put the globe on the wall above the stairs. That one doesn't need to be fancy for now and it is actually only meant to light up the stairs. It is on the same circuit as the room that Max is sitting in. Can you see him? He has never really been allowed in this room and since we had the puppy gate up the entire time we have been working in here he has gotten used to the idea that he is not allowed in. So far so good. He's happy (see him smiling?) to just sit there and watch and if he happens to step in I chase him right out. No dogs allowed. We'll see how long that lasts but it is my hope to keep this rule applied for as long as possible.

Also today:
I have plans to put all of the cover plates on the plugs and switches. They'll need some slight adjustments to fit flush like I want and how they should be. Did you know that I installed all of those plugs and lights? You don't have to pay the electrician to do anything more than you want him to. I had him set the boxes and then I did the rest by myself.

I want to get some Quickrete concrete cleaner and etcher. I'm back to my decision to just stain the concrete but this time with less protection (no super epoxy coat). After all, I'm not driving a car on it, just a rolly chair.

So close but yet so far

There has been some painting going on and I couldn't seem to get a good picture before now. The ceiling is white, the main wall color is a match to my living room color (neutral) and I added an accent wall that is called Fairmont Suite Clay Red by Valspar. It was a scary thing for me to do but I am loving the results.

Here's the short list of things to finish:
Install lighting fixtures
Install my desk
The bench
The floor

It looks like it will be a few more weeks until I can move in.

Shop Front Finished!

This is the before. Complete with broken siding from when my brother drove into the "garage". It includes a window mounted upside down and a door mounted too high so the critters could enter freely. This was after I had gotten the electrical done because the light fixture is new.

This is with the siding removed, house wrap on and new window.

Foam board up and new door! Also notice there is now a rain gutter. I plan to hang some sort of decorative chain.

New window, new door siding replaced with better pieces so there are no cracks! The lighting fixture is not up yet since we finished this last night and it appears I am missing a bracket. I consider it done.

Exterior Fixtures

First we have my new to me lighting fixtures. I found these beauties at the Goodwill Outlet in PA and paid .59/lb. This is my before/after picture. All I did was clean off the dirt, spray prime and then spray paint matte black. We only needed one done for starters and as it turns out I ran out of the matte black. One for each entry.

These are my new deadbolts and knobs. I got a matching set for the shop and the front door.I love them!
